PA@Work: The Effect of Domestic Violence on the Workforce
PA@Work: The Effect of Domestic Violence on the Workforce
Tuesday, October 15, 2024 (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (EDT)
Description
In our communities domestic or partner violence occurs at alarming rates where 25-50% of men and women report that they experience domestic violence in their lifetime. These high rates of occurrence also affect the workforce where 83% of survivors report that domestic/partner violence affected their work and 53% report losing at least one job. Domestic violence can affect anyone at any time but there is an increased risk for victimization that is associated with economic insecurity and poverty.
This online presentation offered by STANDING FIRM, a program of the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh, intends to build understanding around the complex issues of domestic/partner violence, how it affects the workforce and workplace, and how to recognize warning signs.
We hope to inspire a conversation on how workforce development professionals, workforce development boards (WDBs), and other key stakeholders can recognize the effect of domestic/partner violence on their work and find ways to support victims and survivors on their journey to economic security and independence.
